Trend Alert // Mens’ trend Mania
|BOY MEETS GIRL IN THE TREND THAT’S TOOK OVER THE CATWALKS…This season, androgyny is officially where it’s at.
Men’s trend has been seen on couture catwalks and paved high streets alike, and whether you love it or hate it, fashionistas everywhere have embraced the boyish look, wearing key pieces such as brogues, loafers and ankle boots.
Inspired by key figures, like the stunning supermodel and androgynous icon Agyness Deyn, men’s trend has gradually filtered through the decades from the 1960’s, to take over the AW’13 catwalks.
|There are two shoe-styles in particular that have become the epitome of masculine-inspired style; Lace-up brogues and Loafers. With top designers such as Simone Rocha, Mulberry and Chloe sending heeled loafers, and brogues with feminine-esque inspirations down their runways, its clear that the androgyny trend will be going nowhere, it’s a style to stay.
Wear the trend!
Take inspiration from the catwalk and work a pair of tomboy brogues with a tailored coat and dress. It’s important to keep lines and shapes simple, so go for a boyfriend style, with minimal accessories. However, the saying “Behind every great man is a woman” couldn’t be more relevant this season., so make the style your own by adding a feminine edge to the darker colours that dominate this trend. You can work that pair of tasselled loafers with a luscious red lipstick for extra oomph, and team those lace-up brogues with a patent pink bag for the ultimate boy-meets-girl get up.
Shake up your shoe style too: Brogues are coming in all sorts of forms in AW’13, from mono-block and jazz-age flats to patent pinks and purples. Experiment with a luxe loafer by picking a pair with a 90’s style block heel, or if flats take your fancy, try out a tasselled loafer with a cleated platform, which is feature appearing on all sorts of styles in the new season. Wow! What is a girl to do when she’s so spoilt for choice!
The most important element of Androgyny is of course, attitude. If you want to work this look, do it with some serious conviction. Go on girls! Embrace you inner-masculinity and have a good old raid through your boyfriend’s closet to take on the tomboy trend…
